For complete breathability and greater longevity, we suggest that the wool mattress be placed on a wood slatted frame. The mattress is most comfortable in when used in combination with our snuggle mate topper. We also recommend the latex padded slats for those who prefer a softer bed. Our 5" wool mattress consists of 10 layers of our thick wool batting and is covered with a soft and durable Eco wool textile. It will compress about 10% during the first 6 months of use, so we recommend sleeping all over the mattress and rotating it on a regular basis. With proper care, this mattress will last for several decades. We can refurbish mattresses after 10, 20 or 30 years upon request.

In the spirit of Goldilocks I tried many options for a "green" sleep system. I love my new wool pillows, comforter, topper and mattress. I could feel the slats from the wood frame through the 5" mattress so I added 3" of latex on the slats. Now my bed is cozy, cuddly and just right !!!

We finally took the plunge this year and bought the 5" mattress to replace an organic latex mattress that had "cratered" (that was an expensive mistake). The quality of the construction on this mattress is just fantastic! And it is quite heavy -- make sure you have some help to get it onto your bed! It's very, very firm, which is what we were looking, but we found that it works best for us paired with the latex strips and the wool topper. Without the latex strips, we can feel the wood slats of our bed through the mattress. With the strips, it's perfect! I love the modularity of this system -- you can swap out layers until you get to "just right."

My mattress and bedding are nearly 2 years old now and it is wonderful. My mattress, snugglemate,and latex slats offer a firm but very cuddly nights sleep. The wool bed is always the right temperature, and my arms and legs don't go numb while I sleep. I love that I can take the bed layers apart to sun them and refresh them. Thank you, Shepherd's Dream, for making my beautiful bed! Well worth the investment.

incredibly well made...unparalleled comfort...worth every penny...you will wake up feeling refreshed every morning! i use it with a 3 inch latex mattress, topped by the incredible snuggle mate, and organic wool mattress protector...and wool pillows of course!...best sleep system ever....this is the best investment in your health and well being that you can make......
